PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drum type ice making machine capable of detecting abnormal ice. SOLUTION: The drum type ice making machine 30 includes: an ice making tank 12 storing ice making water; an ice making drum 14 cooled by a refrigerant from a refrigerating system and rotated around the horizontal axis while partially immersed in the ice making water within the ice making tank 12; and a cutter 18 arranged so that a cutting edge 18a is positioned in the proximity to the outer surface of the ice making drum 14 and peeling off an ice layer I formed on the outer surface. The ice making tank 12 includes an abnormality detection means 48 located on the upper side of the cutter 18 on which the abnormal ice A can abut from the lower side and detecting the abnormal ice A. The abnormality detection means 48 includes: a sensing member 50 pushed up by the abnormal ice A and elastically deformed; and a sensor part 54 positioned above the sensing member 50 and sensing the elastically deformed sensing member 50.
