<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control apparatus and a control method which can prevent the erroneous detection of an abnormality of an ion sensor or the occurrence of preignition even is noise is superimposed in an ion signal. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The control apparatus (10) includes: an ignition plug control unit (14) for controlling an ignition plug (41) by which fuel is combusted; and an executive unit (11) executing: input processing for inputting an ion signal from an ion sensor (51) detecting an ion current generated by fuel combustion in a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine; output process for outputting an ignition signal to the ignition plug control unit based on the ion signal inputted by the input processing and an input signal from an crank angle sensor; preignition detection processing for detecting preignition based on the ion signal inputted by the input processing; and abnormality detection processing for detecting an abnormality of the ion sensor based on the ion signal inputted by the input processing when the preignition detection processing is not executed.
