The invention relates overall to a container (1) for long-term storage intended to receive a case (3) containing radioactive material, the container comprising a side body (2) delimiting a cavity (4) to receive the case, the container body being closed at its top end (2a) and at its bottom end (2b) respectively by a removable top cover (6) and by a container base. According to the invention, the container base takes the form of a removable base cover (8), allowing the introduction of the case (3) through the bottom end (2b) of the body (2). The invention also relates to a process for transferring such a case.
