<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent change in data in advance by strengthening resistance to noise. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This printer includes an engine part for carrying out print processing; a mechanical controller for controlling driving of the engine part; and a main controller that communicates with the mechanical controller. The mechanical controller and the main controller communicate with each other while synchronizing using the waveform change of clock signals flowing in a clock line. The main controller transmits periodic data indicating the period of waveform change of the clock signals, to the mechanical controller before the start of communication, and the mechanical controller monitors the waveform change of the clock signals during communication and considers the waveform change to be invalid when the waveform change differs from the period predetermined by the transmitted periodic data and does not carry out communication based on the waveform change.
