PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fish discriminating apparatus for preventing a wrong decision in image processing, preventing damage to fish, and discriminating the shape of the fish with high efficiency. SOLUTION: The fish discriminating apparatus 10 comprises a housing tank 12 provided with a sidewall 16 having at least partially see-through properties. An image pickup part 13 is disposed on the lateral side of the housing tank 12, and images of the fish 11 in the housing tank 12 are picked up from a part having the see-through properties in the sidewall 16. A decision part 14 analyzes the images picked up with the image pickup part 13 to decide whether the fish 11 in the housing tank 12 is acceptable on the basis of analytical results thereof. A storage space capable of storing a liquid for feeding to the housing tank 12 is formed in the storage tank 17 to store the liquid in the storage space. A communication pipe 18 is connected to the bottom of the housing tank 12 and the bottom of the storage tank 17, and can be made to communicate with the internal space of the housing tank 12 and the storage space of the storage tank 17.
