A banknote discrimination apparatus 10 includes bodies 20a, 30a and a plurality of sensors 21, 22, 23, 31, 32, each detachably provided to the bodies 20a, 30a and adapted for detecting each banknote. The banknote discrimination apparatus 10 further includes a control unit adapted for discriminating the banknote, based on detection information detected by each sensor 21, 22, 23, 31, 32. The control unit is configured to discriminate the banknote, by using the detection information detected by one of the plurality of sensors 21, 22, 23, 31, 32, which is newly attached to one of the bodies 20a, 30a, in addition to the detection information detected by the sensor or sensors already attached to the bodies 20a, 30a, if the one of the plurality of sensors 21, 22, 23, 31, 32 is attached to the one of the bodies 20a, 30a.
