PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which image deletion is avoided, permanent strain of a charging roller is recovered, and a low molecular weight material in the charging roller material bleeding to the surface of a photoreceptor is removed so as to prevent image failure caused by contamination on the photoreceptor surface. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus having a charging roller which touches the photoreceptor surface and charges the photoreceptor surface, the apparatus has a function to rotate the charging roller as in contact with the photoreceptor while the photoreceptor is stopped.
