Method for checking a knocking device

The method involves determining a knocking device for cleaning an upper surface of a heat exchanging element (8) in an inner side (6) of a boiler housing (4) of a waste incineration plant. A knocking lifter (18) is moved in direction against the inner side and guided through walls (14) of the housing. The heat exchanging element is moved by the lifter from a resting position into a moving position. Force for moving the heat exchanging element is determined by a force sensor (34), and settling characteristics of the released heat exchanging element are determined. An independent claim is also included for a device for executing a method for checking a knocking device.
