PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a connecting component metal material having good surface properties after heat treatment and hardly producing whiskers, and to provide a method of manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The connecting component metal material that uses a square wire material 1 made of copper or a copper alloy as the base material and has a tin alloy layer containing an element selected from one of the following two groups (A) and (B) on the outermost surface 2, in total by 0.01 to 2 mass%. The metal material contains at least one selected from a group (A) of Ga, In, Pb, Bi, Cd, Mg, Zn, Ag, Au, each element in an amount of 0.01 to 1 mass%.
