<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device capable of yielding excellent visibility of a virtual image regardless of conditions of a scene of external environment even when the virtual image of a color image is formed. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The display devices 1 and 71 include a display unit 10 forming color image display light L by synthesizing display light of first color and display light of second color different from the first color and emitting the color image display light L, and optical systems 2 and 72 arranged in front of observer P's eyes, making the front of an observer P viewable and guiding the color image display light L to the observer's eyes, and include a first color external environment luminance detection sensor 3 detecting external environment luminance of the first color in front of the optical systems 2 and 72, a second color external environment luminance detection sensor 4 detecting external environment luminance of the second color in front of the optical systems 2 and 72, and a display unit control part 64 controlling the display unit 10 so as to adjust the display luminance of the display light of the first color on the basis of the external environment luminance of the first color and adjust the display luminance of the display light of the second color on the basis of the external environment luminance of the second color.
