The device has a bypass valve (18) i.e. bypass flap, arranged and formed such that the bypass valve selectively opens or closes a channel (24) in a partition wall (22) of a housing (20) between two gas areas (14, 16). An exhaust recirculating valve (10) is arranged in the housing between the gas area (16) and a gas outlet. The gas areas are connected with an inlet (30) and a discharge opening (32) of an exhaust gas cooler (12) in a fluid-tight manner, respectively. The gas area (16) is connected with the gas outlet for an exhaust gas.
