PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and accurately detect the rotating position of a crankshaft of a piston engine, particularly the top dead center. SOLUTION: A device detects the rotating position of the crankshaft (1) of the piston engine having at least one piston which is connected to the crankshaft (1) through a connecting rod 4 and which moves in a cylinder 3, particularly the top dead center. The device comprises a measuring body 5 movable together with the piston 2 and a sensor structure for detecting the position of the measuring body 5.
