807,993. Testing moisture-content of grain. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Oct. 24, 1955 [Oct. 23, 1954], No. 30592/54. Class 58. [Also in Group XXXVI] A probing device is inserted in grain in bulk to provide electrical paths therein the resistance of which can be measured to determine the moisture content. The probe has at least four parallel electrodes divided into two groups of opposite polarity so that there are at least twice as many direct paths through the suple as there are electrodes of one polarity. In the arrangement shown nine electrodes of chromium plated or stainless steel are arranged in the form of a square, the centre 12 and comer electrodes 14 being of one polarity and the electrodes at the centre of the sides 13 of another. The electrodes are pointed to enable them to penetrate in group. To prevent moisture content of the sacking affecting the measurement, the ends of the electrodes are covered with insulation 17 which merges into the contour of the electrodes. A handle 27 is provided and inside housing 11 is a switch 24 which, when open, connects only one electrode 12 and one electrode 13. An alternating or D.C. supply may be used, the latter being derived from a hand-operated generator. The moisture content may be read on a suitably calibrated meter. |
