PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method for simply obtaining environmentally sound gel having high elasticity and strength at a low cost and the gel obtained by the same method. SOLUTION: The production method is carried out by adding an acid or an acid aqueous solution and an organic reinforcing material into the carboxymethyl cellulose alkali salt (CMC) and kneading the added mixture to gelate the CMC.
