The invention comprises dyes of formula <FORM:0941007/C3/1> where X is H or alkyl or alkoxy groups of 1 to 4 C atoms, Y is H, Hg or an alkyl group of 1 to 4 C atoms and Z1 is on the average 30 to 100% a phenylamino group and 70 to 0% Cl or Br. The dyes are made by treating, in either order, about equimolar amounts of 4-(411-amino-311-sulphoanthraquinonyl - 111 - amino) - 41 - aminodiphenyl-31-sulphonic acid and an appropriate 4-amino-41-hydroxyazobenzene-31-carboxylic acid, or their soluble salts, with a 2,4,6-trihalo-1,3,5-triazine to form a secondary condensation product the heterocyclic halogen substituent of which is completely or partially replaced by treating with a primary phenylamine. Mixtures may be made by compounding appropriate single dyes or by using the requisite proportions of reactants during the process of preparation. Preferred reactants are cyanuric chloride, aniline and 4-amino-41-hydroxyazo-benzene-31-carboxylic acid. The dyes colour cellulosic fibres in green shades and have particulary good drawing power when 2 is, on the average, 30 to 70%, especially 50 to 70%, phenylamino. Other phenylamine reactants specified include m-toluidine and p-anisidine. Examples are provided of the preparation of the dyes and their use in colouring cellulosic materials. |
