A method for restoring a program and an apparatus thereof are provided to recover a program by using a panel key or a remote controller of an image device when the image device does not operate normally, thereby providing convenience to a user. A sub control unit and a main control unit perform initiation when a command for turning on a broadcast receiving apparatus is input(S210,S220,S240). The sub controller determines whether a program recovery command is inputted(S225). When the program recovery command is input, the sub control unit transfers a message including a program recovery command to the main control unit(S230). The main control unit receiving the program recovery command reads a previous program stored in a storage unit for backup(S245). The main control unit stores a previous program in a storage unit for execution(S250). The main control unit reboots a broadcasting receiving device(S255). The sub control unit determines whether a broadcasting receiving command is inputted(S260).
