<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a situation that heat of a light shielding member interposed between a light source and a base member is conducted to the base member and adversely influences the base member. <P>SOLUTION: In the optical unit for spectrally splitting light emitted from the light source 1 to a plurality of colors and guiding the light to optical modulation elements corresponding to the respective colors, a thermal diffusion member 101 is attached to the light shielding member 100 provided at the mounting part of the light source 1 and intercepting a part of the light radiated from the light source 1. The light shielding member 100 comprises, for example, a metal plate or a plate made of resin.
