A method for manufacturing a ceramic filter body using diatomaceous earth as a principal component is provided to manufacture a ceramic filter for water purification that has a high porosity, high strength, a pore size suitable for water purification, and a uniform pore distribution, reduce the water purification cost relatively, and manufacture a very environmental friendly filter. A method for manufacturing a ceramic filter body using diatomaceous earth as a principal component comprises: a first step(ST1) of preparing a raw material by mixing diatomaceous earth as a principal component of a filter with montmorillonite or clay plasticizer as an additive and one or more powders selected from amorphous aluminosilicate, calcium carbonate, talc, dolomite, kaolin, and chamotte; a second step(ST2) of forming pores in the raw material, adding at least one organic compound selected from water, polyvinyl alcohol, methylcellulose, carboxy methylcellulose, cellulose, starch, polyethyleneglycol, ethyleneglycol, and glycerin as molding additives to the porous raw material to form a mixture, and kneading the mixture to form a system in an uniform state having a viscosity suitable for molding; a third step(ST3) of extrusion molding the kneaded material into a green body; and a fourth step(ST4) of drying and firing the green body to manufacture a porous ceramic filter body.
