PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mold-press molding method for glass optical elements by which high precision glass optical elements can be press-molded at a short cycle time by switching the moving speed of a press-shaft at appropriate timing. SOLUTION: When a glass workpiece PF is press-molded into a prescribed shape by supplying the glass workpiece PF between an upper mold 11 and a lower mold 12 and pressing the upper mold 11 toward the lower mold 12 with a press-shaft 4, the mold-press molding method includes: a press-shaft moving process (ST1, 3) for moving the press-shaft 4 located in a waiting position toward the upper mold 11 at a predetermined moving speed; a monitoring process (ST4) for monitoring whether the press-shaft 4 is brought into contact with the upper mold 11 or not based on the actual moving state of the press-shaft 4 in the press-shaft moving process, and a pressing process (ST6) for press-molding the glass workpiece PF by moving the press shaft 4 in the pressing direction at a pressing-speed lower than the moving speed of the press-shaft 4 after detecting that the press-shaft 4 is brought into contact with the upper mold 11.
