PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a frictional electrification type electrostatic coating apparatus in which the deposition efficiency of powder paint to a material to be coated is improved by attaining sufficient frictional electrification from the beginning when the coating work is carried out by intermittently repeating the discharge and the stoppage of the discharge of the powder paint. SOLUTION: The powder paint is frictionally charged sufficiently from the beginning by previously supplying carrier air to a charging tube of a frictional electrification type electrostatic coating gun 3 before supplying the powder paint to the charging tube and after that, supplying the power paint to the charging tube when the accelerated speed of the carrier air in the charging tube becomes stable.
