Processing a renewable raw material comprises subjecting the material to enzymatic hydrolysis, separating the hydrolysis product into solid and aqueous liquid fractions, using the liquid fraction as a carbon source for a microorganism to produce a target substance by fermentation, and using the solid fraction to produce biogas by anaerobic digestion.
