<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gel composition for separation and recovery capable of easily eluting biological material from gel after separation by chromatography or electrophoresis, and to provide a separation/recovery method that uses the composition. <P>SOLUTION: The gel composition for separation and recovery contains A component and B component and is solated by adding an additive. The A component is a polymer, containing a phosphorylcholine similar group represented by at least formula (1) and a first functional group in molecules. In the formula (1), R<SP>1</SP>shows a bivalent hydrocarbon group of a carbon number of 2-12; R<SP>2</SP>shows a bivalent hydrocarbon group of a carbon number of 2-4; and R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP>and R<SP>5</SP>independently show hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon group of a carbon number of 1-6. The B component is high molecular compound containing at least a second functional group binding to the first functional group in the molecules.
