Systems and processes for processing financial instruments include receiv ing a physical financial instrument (300), printing (510) data on the receiv ed physical financial instrument, and capturing (520) an image of the physic al financial instrument to produce an electronic image. At least a portion o f the data printed on the physical financial instrument is printed in a mann er that substantially precludes reproduction in the electronic image. The el ectronic image is transmitted (530) across a network, for example, to perfor m electronic processing, such as posting or clearing.
