A plurality of address electrodes(111) are arranged across a plurality of pairs of sustain electrodes. An electron emission unit includes a nano porous carbon particle layer for amplifying emission of electrons within the discharge cells by using a voltage applied to the sustain electrodes. A light emitting layer(115) is arranged in the discharge cells. The discharge cells are filled with discharge gas.
