PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method for an organic EL element which facilitates patterning of an organic EL layer, reduces damage to an electrode layer by the organic EL layer, and has superior light emission characteristics. SOLUTION: The organic EL element includes a board, a first electrode layer, a wettability change layer, an organic EL layer, and a second electrode layer, which are laminated in this order. The wettability change layer shows a change in wettability due to the effect of a photocatalyst caused by exposure of the wettability change layer to energy, is inert to the energy, and has a wettability change pattern on the surface of the layer. The wettability change pattern is composed of a lyophilic area containing an organopolysiloxane and a liquid-repulsive area containing an organopolysiloxane containing a fluorine.
