PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method or the like of coating an outer peripheral material allowing formation of a layer of an outer peripheral material with a predetermined quality. SOLUTION: The method of coating an outer peripheral material has the process of applying slurry for the outer peripheral material to the circumferential outer peripheral surface of a nearly cylindrical honeycomb substrate having two or more cells extending in the axial direction and a process of causing the honeycomb substrate to pass through an annular shaping member having a predetermined inner peripheral shape so as to shape an outer peripheral shape.
