PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a time required for identifying a medium by rearranging flexibly an inspection order for the medium. SOLUTION: Procedure of a series of inspection for identifying a kind of the medium of an optical disk is stored previously in a memory, procedure of inspection to be inspected next is read out according to procedure of the series of inspection, the inspection in accordance with the read procedure is performed for the optical disk to be inspected, the next inspection order is read out according to the inspected result and the series of inspection procedure, a kind of the medium to be inspected is obtained by repeating that, and an order of the procedure stored in the memory is changed so that the inspection required for identifying a kind of a medium is inspected preferentially.
