A plasma display apparatus is provided to prevent a data IC(Integrated Circuit) from being damaged by adjusting a gain and reducing the number of subfields. A plasma display apparatus includes a load detecting unit(50) and a gain adjusting unit(20). The load detecting unit detects load of a data IC for supplying a driving signal to address electrodes according to patterns of image signals. The gain adjusting unit adjusts a gain to decrease the number of subfields, which is used for forming a frame, when the load exceeded a limit range is detected by the load detecting unit. The number of sustain pulses, which are set according to the image signals, are maintained during subfields decreased by the gain adjusting unit.
