The method involves transmitting a sample (3) of musical piece over a transmission path (9) directly or indirectly to a music analyzer (11) by a subscriber. The sample is compared with a set of original and/or complete musical pieces (13) stored in a data bank and/or computer, and the appropriate musical piece is determined dependant on the sample, by the analyzer. The determined musical piece and/or information concerning the musical piece are transferred to the subscriber, and are retrievable and/or downloadable by the subscriber. An independent claim is also included for a system for retrieving information on music or musical piece.
