The method involves fixing a hood on a structure of a motor vehicle, and fixing an armature (4) such as bumper armature, on a cross piece supporting cooling elements of an engine of the motor vehicle. The armature is indexed with respect to the hood using a gauge (10), that is disposed between the hood and the armature in a provisional manner, to position the armature with respect to the hood. The armature is fixed on a connection element that is positioned on the structure of the motor vehicle.
