PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for winding a filament which enable appropriate judge of the quality without a break-down test and substantially contribute to reduction of the cost for quality management. SOLUTION: The filament winding method comprises winding a fiber bundle 2 impregnated with a resin around a winding member while controlling the amount of the fiber bundle wound and the tensile force of the fiber bundle. In the filament winding apparatus, an optical width sensor 67 which detects the width of the fiber bundle 2 delivered from a winding roller 51 is arranged on a bracket 50 supporting the winding roller 51 delivering the fiber bundle 2 to the winding member. During winding a filament, the width of the fiber bundle 2 related intimately with the occurrence of holes is measured continuously with the width sensor 67, and the quality is judged on the basis of the fiber bundle width curve illustrating results of the determination.
