APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR PROVIDING RELAY SERVICE IN BROADBAND WIRELESS ACCESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

An apparatus and a method for providing a relay service in a broadband wireless access communication system are provided to optimize a pilot overhead for a total frame by adapting a permutation scheme for a direct link. A method for providing a relay service in a broadband wireless access communication system includes the steps of: dividing a total frequency band into a plurality of bands to support a plurality of links(705); independently determining a subcarrier allocation scheme for the divided bands(709); and performing communication through the determined subcarrier allocation scheme at the plurality of links(711). The plurality of links includes a direct link between a base station and a terminal, and a relay link between a relay station and the terminal. At least one of the plurality of bands uses a subcarrier allocation scheme based on a dedicated pilot which is one of UL PUSC(Partial Usage of SubCarrier), OPUSC(Optional PUSC), and AMC(Adaptive Modulation and Coding) schemes.
