PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data storage device, in which reliability and lifetime of HDD are improved even in a power saving mode without degrading an access response to the HDD. SOLUTION: The data storage device comprises a first HDD 10, a second HDD 11, and a controller 8 which changes the timing of starting and stopping of hard disk drive devices in accordance with a type for stored data when the controller shifts to a power saving mode and returns from the power saving mode. The timing of starting and stopping the hard disks is changed by using a second HDD 11 for storing a data required for a quick retrieval and a first HDD 10 for storing a data to allow a retrieval delay, thereby preventing an access response to the hard disk device from degrading as much as possible even if the hard disk device shifts to the power saving mode, and improving the reliability and the lifetime of the hard disk devices.
