PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a damping device for a railway vehicle performing semi-active control capable of enhancing riding comfortability in the vehicle not depending on a railway route condition. SOLUTION: In the damping device for the railway vehicle provided with a damping force variable damper 3 interposed between a vehicle body 1 and a truck for supporting the vehicle body 1 in the railway vehicle V and suppressing the vibration of the vehicle body in a horizontal lateral direction relative to the advancement direction of the vehicle V; and a control means 4 for sky-hook semi-active-controlling a control force F for suppressing the vibration of the vehicle body generated by the damping force variable damper 3, the control means 4 changes a sky-hook dampening coefficient Cs based on a traveling position of the vehicle V.
