PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deterioration of conductivity with phosphor at a sealing process due to oxidation of a metal film black matrix of Cr/Cr<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>or the like and contamination of electron sources due to vaporization of transition metal oxide. SOLUTION: The black matrix 119 formed on the main face of a front substrate 20 is to be a laminated film of the transition metal oxide (Cr<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>) and transition metal (Cr) coated with conductive oxide such as ITO.
