A document management technique includes a database of text strings, a document templates in the form of a doubly link or other list of text strings in the text string database which include attribute codes related to editing, approving, and displaying or printing test strings. Revised templates and text strings are saved as new templates and text strin gs so that the version of the document before any particular revision may easily be tracked and reproduced.
