PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of inspecting a sparking plug which can easily inspect a clearance between the inner peripheral surface of a main metal fitting and the outer peripheral surface of an insulator when the main metal fitting and the insulator are assembled together in the course of production of the sparking plug and a manufacturing method using it. SOLUTION: An image of the assembly of the main metal fitting and the insulator is digitalized and scanning is performed circularly from the center of the image to obtain the outer peripheral outline A of the insulator and to calculate its center position C. Then scanning is preformed circularly from the center position C to obtain the inner peripheral outline B and a ground electrode area D, including margin, in the direction the ground electrode is placed. A virtual circle E of which diameter is secured as the inner diameter of the main metal fitting in another process is drawn on this image. In the ground electrode area D, a distance T between the outer peripheral outline A and the virtual circle E is inspected to inspect clearances of parts even existing out of sight.
