PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet conveying device capable of enhancing the safety of a worker to perform the maintenance such as jam treatment therein, and preventing a failure of the device caused by catching a hand or clothes of the worker. SOLUTION: The sheet conveying device comprises a conveying passage 62 having a curved part 60 formed in a curved shape, a conveying roller 67 arranged on the curved part 60 so that a roller surface is exposed to the conveying passage 62, a guide plate 73 arranged with a predetermined space D from the roller surface of the conveying roller 67 on the downstream side in the conveying direction from the conveying roller 67, an ADF cover 8 which is turnably supported by an ADF body 78, and opened/closed so as to expose the conveying roller 67 and the guide plate 73, a protective cover 80 which is rockingly supported by the ADF body 78 at the first rocking position to cover the space D and the second rocking position to open the space D, and a projecting part 89 to rock the protective cover 80 at the first rocking position interlockingly with the opening of the protective cover 80.
