PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drum type washing machine which can gain a larger damping force when the drum rotation frequency is low and can gain a smaller damping force as the drum rotation frequency increases. SOLUTION: A suspension 6 is comprised of a cylindrical elastic member 50 which encircles a friction damper section 40 and a spring 30 and on the occasion of the relative reciprocating motion of a rod 23, the rod 23 is constituted to be made to slide along a friction member 21 and the spring 30 is encircled by the cylindrical elastic member 50 with the prescribed tightening margin. Thereby, the suspension 6 can gain a damping force to match the characteristics of the drum type washing machine that the amplitude of a water tank is large when the drum rotation frequency is low and the amplitude of the water tank decreases as the drum rotation frequency increases by the damping force between the friction member 21 and the rod 23 and the damping force between the spring 30 and the cylindrical elastic member 50.
