A stub welding method for a bent work piece (10) having a welding seam (12) running across the bending axis comprises leading the seam from both outer ends beginning in part seams to the neutral plane (14) of the bend. Preferably the part seams overlap in the central region and the weld is produced by a laser. An independent claim is also included for a device for the above process.
