PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problem that it is complicated for a user to apply an attribute for extracting an object so as to extract the important object from a document disposed with a plurality of objects and to produce index data. SOLUTION: The object to be extracted is determined on the basis of a layout characteristic of the object without requiring the user to apply the attribute additionally, and the index data are produced.
