<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an enclosure inspection method capable of quickly determining whether an enclosure is an object even when there are many inspected objects, and its device. <P>SOLUTION: In this enclosure inspection device 11, when a sealed letter 2 is inputted into a sealed letter input station A, the thickness of the sealed letter and whether an enclosure sealed in the sealed letter is a predetermined false object are determined by an appearance inspection means 27 and an X-ray inspection means 33. A sealed letter with a thickness more than a predetermined thickness is rejected by a first screening station D. A sealed letter with a predetermined thickness or less from which no false object is detected is conveyed to a second screening station G as it is. Regarding a sealed letter with a predetermined thickness or less from which a false object is detected, the false object in the sealed letter is positioned in a positioning station E, then it is determined whether the false object is the predetermined object such as an explosive or drug using tera-hertz wave in a false object inspection station F.
