A breast pump comprises a handle 19 which encloses an actuating arm 18 formed from two pivotally coupled links. One of the links is pivotally mounted to a sliding member 16 attached to a piston 15; the other link is pivotally mounted to a cylinder shroud 13. Squeezing the handle 19 whilst holding a funnel 12 against a breast causes the links of the arm to straighten which in turn raises the piston within a cylinder 14 to create a vacuum which draws milk from a breast. The milk is stored above a collecting bottle 11 by a seal 110 and valve 111 until the handle is released. |
