PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable sure copyright protection of audio and video content data. SOLUTION: A disk player 100 as a transmission device and a recording device 300 as a receiving device are connected via two IEEE 1394 standard serial interfaces 188-1, 188-2 or the like. For example, a given data stream containing a pack of at least either of audio data and video data is formed, and at least a down-sampling flag, a down-mix flag or a de-quantize flag is stored in a given area provided within a real data in the data stream, is converted into a packet conforming to the IEEE 1394 standard serial interface and is transmitted through the serial interface.
