<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a side airbag device easy to provide proper protection in accordance with physique of an occupant. <P>SOLUTION: This side airbag device is furnished with an air bag 13 deployed between a body side part of a vehicle and the occupant P by gas generated from an inflator 12. The airbag 13 is furnished with an upper part chamber 31, a central chamber 32 and a lower part chamber 33, and the central chamber 32 is divided from the upper part chamber 31 and the lower part chamber 33. The inflator 12 is furnished with a lower part blowout port 23 to blow out gas toward the inside of the central chamber 32 and a central blowout port 22 to blow out gas to the inside of the central chamber 32. The side airbag device is further furnished with a physique detection means to detect the physique of the occupant P and a change-over means to switch blowout of gas from the central blowout port 22.
