<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air bag device capable of preventing an air bag from contacting a supporting means of a hood without requiring a separate component. <P>SOLUTION: The air bag device is equipped to a lower side of a rear end portion of an engine hood 3 provided at a front portion of a vehicle body 1. When an automobile collides with an article to be protected such as a pedestrian, a hood lifting means 6 structuring the supporting means of the hood lifts up the engine hood 3. Simultaneously, when the air bag 15 is expanded/deployed to a front pillar 1a side by high-pressure gas jet out from an inflator 13 to protect the article to be protected, on an upper surface of an air bag storing case 11 storing the air bag 15, a protecting cover 11f opening so as to cover the hood lifting means 6 when a tear line is teared by expansion pressure of the air bag 15 is formed.
