PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reinforcing material for air filters excellent in flame retardance without using a flame retardant. SOLUTION: The reinforcing material for air filters comprises a short fiber nonwoven fabric constituted of a core-sheath composite short fiber. The core-sheath composite short fiber is made of a lower melting polymer in the sheath section and a higher melting point polymer in the core section. As the lower temperature polymer, a low melting point polyester is preferable. As the higher melting point polymer, a high melting point polyester is preferable. The sheath section is preferably≥50 mass% in the core-sheath composite short fiber. The fiber length of the core-sheath short fiber is preferably 10-100 mm. The short fiber nonwoven fabric contains≥30 mass% low melting point polymer. The core-sheath composite short fiber is mutually interlaced and bound with fusion of the low melting point polymer.
