<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image forming apparatus realizing communication of management information between an apparatus main body and respective process cartridges by a non-contact communication system to cope with a situation by using one communication device on the apparatus main body side, and realizing connection check in the case the specified process cartridge has to be connected to a designated attaching place by using a means which can be adapted to such a communication system. <P>SOLUTION: The control part of the main body of the color image forming apparatus communicates with the storage element parts of respective four color process cartridges to be used so as to confirm (S304) connection according to connection information (detecting the connection on the cartridge side), and receives connection destination information (information to identify the attaching place detected on the cartridge side) and color information possessed by the connected cartridge (S305 and S306), and refers to the appropriate combination of the attaching place and the color information so as to check whether or not erroneous connection occurs (S307).
