PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing a high-purity silicon compound having a living radical polymerization initiation group. SOLUTION: A silicon compound represented by formula (1) is produced by reacting a halosilane compound represented by formula (2) with a trialkyl orthoformate represented by formula (3). In formulae (1) to (3), A is a group having radical polymerization initiation capacity; R<SP>1</SP>is an alkyl; R<SP>2</SP>is an alkyl, an aryl, or an arylalkyl; and n is 1 to 3.
