A height adjustable key for a woodwind instrument, especially for a saxophone, has the finger pad (14) made in one piece with a ratchet stub (13) which has a sliding fit inside a housing (12) fitted to the finger end of the key lever (10). The selected height of the finger pad is secured by a simple grub screw fitting (15, 123).
